Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed he was surprised by Romelu Lukaku‘s good performance. As the player has just recovered from an injury.

The Blue Lions lost out to Brighton’s 1-1 stoppage-time draw in the Premier League on Wednesday. With the Blues coming in second, one point less than Liverpool.

The Belgian striker scored again last time out after a first-half header from a corner. And after the game Tuchel said he was “very surprised” by Lukaku’s performance.

“I’m surprised at what he’s doing. really surprised But I don’t know how long he will be able to do that. We will try and wait and see because no one will know.

“I was surprised because he was injured for six or eight weeks and then when I tried to come back I thought of coronavirus. and after a single session of practice and on the field This is what we are doing right now.”

“When he was struggling to come back in the schedule we have. He caught Covid. It (45 minutes) was more than the fitness and medical department recommended for him. But we thought we could take the risk and be more offensive.”

Yet Tuchel admitted his celebrations are tempered because of his concerns surrounding his players’ health. We having also lost N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva to injury.

He said: “It’s a big win but I’m always concerned for the health and safety of the players and that’s why you don’t see me fully excited.
