AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca was left furious after his team swap penalty takers during their 2-1 Serie A defeat at Fiorentina.

AC Milan’s three-game winning streak in Serie A ended after leaving the Stadio Artemio Franchi with a 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina in a game full of twists and turns, including two missed penalties by the Rossoneri.

Theo Hernandez’s first-half effort was save by David De Gea and Tammy Abraham’s second was denied by the Fiorentina goalkeeper, a move that left Fonseca unhappy with the decision to leave Christian Pulisic as his first-choice finisher.

“Of course I was not happy (about the penalty change). Christian (Pulisic) should have taken the penalty. This cannot happen again. I told my players,” Fonseca said.

The coach, amid the uproar generated by a match that featured three penalties, expressed his disagreement with the refereeing criteria.

“I don’t want to talk about the refereeing. I love football and I don’t want to contribute to this circus. Every little thing, every contact is a penalty. I’m not just talking about AC Milan, whether for or against, but for everyone. This isn’t football,” he said immediately after the match to DAZN.
